My name is Valerie. I am currently a grad student in Communication Studies (interested in art institutions and the internet) who thrives in a realm of yummy smells, instant and speedy wifi, and the artists, designers and thinkers who make everything worthwhile. Welcome to my website.

My sister, the artist - Ashley de Jong-Doucette

As we grew up my sister Ashley and I were both very creative - I would write poetry and stories while she would create artworks in pencil, paint, pretty much marking in whatever she could get her hands on.  We always joked that we would form a dynamic sister team of writing children’s books and illustrating them together.

When my interests veered off toward art history, we mused about my becoming a curator and putting her artworks in my gallery.  Well so far in the real world I have continued my academic writing and research while my sister has taken what I see as a very courageous path to continue to explore her own creativity by pursuing a fine arts degree at York University in Toronto.

I am happy to announce that she has finally joined the web game by making some prints of her paintings and drawings available online.  You can also check out her online portfolio.

I really love her latest work, available in print format both on paper or canvas.  Here are my two favourites:
