My name is Valerie. I am currently a grad student in Communication Studies (interested in art institutions and the internet) who thrives in a realm of yummy smells, instant and speedy wifi, and the artists, designers and thinkers who make everything worthwhile. Welcome to my website.

Where the Hell is Matt? (A story about an elaborate hoax)

Have you ever heard of “Where the Hell is Matt?” An Aussie quits his job and travels all over the world - and for fun decides to do some funny dancing in front of monuments or in atmospheric places, sometimes joined by native residents of these locales.  These sequences are compiled on film and it becomes a viral video.  Being the paranoid web users that they (can anyone blame them for that part?), several people suggest that this was an elaborate hoax, photoshopped or edited somehow to seem convincing.

At a conference, Matt Harding showed the video compilation and explained just how he pulled off this “hoax.”  Apparently, not everyone realized he was being sarcastic.  Or maybe they didn’t watch the whole Ted.com quality talk (and hear about the animatronic robots involved):
