My name is Valerie. I am currently a grad student in Communication Studies (interested in art institutions and the internet) who thrives in a realm of yummy smells, instant and speedy wifi, and the artists, designers and thinkers who make everything worthwhile. Welcome to my website.

Perspectives: the ums and ahs of life’s big questions

(NOTE: Best played with headphones)

By BaseMOTION, the Perspectives Project uses traditionally conducted interviews and reprocesses them into a thought provoking film series.  Describing the project, they write:

While interviews traditionally present what people say, in Perspectives the interviewees don’t actually say anything. With the spoken portion of the footage edited out, Perspectives leaves only body language, pauses for thought, and interjections to do the communicating.

They ask them conceptually complex questions that seem to elicit the most “umms” and “aah” and hand gestures, then isolate those moment when you can almost see the gears turning in people’s minds; those transitional spaces of pause and contemplation.  Very interesting work.
