Please note: This blog has gone portable as I abandon the still thawing Canada for a whirlwind four month journey around Europe.

I plan to post at least once a week to document my adventures as a solo female vegan art-loving traveller. Check out the map for geographical details of the trip in progress. Both the blog and the photos on Flickr will be updated as often as possible.

Smart Spending with Vegan Essentials

So J and I have pulled back the reins on our spending after a few months of losing some control with food costs. This has led to some creative Christmas gift maneuvering (which I am excited to tell you about after everyone gets their gifts!). Financial organization and management, or the taboo word “budgeting,” has been a sore spot for me for years. Just as for most people, money has been an area of confusion and fear.  Well finally, we have begun to track our spending. After a tip from my good friend Jill, we are now entering every transaction into Expensr. Already, I am feeling a huge sense of relief. I can see where my money is going. My accounts are laid out clearly in all honesty, and I finally feel like my finances are under my control, where they belong.

At any rate, with all of this cutting back, I was happy to have the excuse to do some online ordering at Vegan Essentials. I needed winter boots. But in the spirit of stocking up in an online shopping session I added some other items. (all images are from the Vegan Essentials website)

First, I had to get the winter boots; this was an easy choice. I managed to pick the right size (I’m a Canadian sized 7, and their size 7 fit perfectly): Women’s Banff Boot by Icebug. I’m happy to say that they are very comfortable, sleek, and perfect in terms of winter-ice grippiness.

“Keep Singing” Unisex Zippered Jogger. It reads “Herbivore: Keep Singing.” They only had medium left in stock which I thought would be fine, but it’s a little bigger than I’d like. It’s a beautiful green colour though, and still looks fine. If it’s comfy and spreads the good message, what more could I ask for?

Vegan Compassion Button by NonviolenceUnited.org. I ordered about five of these; finally a vegan button which perfectly summarizes the reasons I have chosen this lifestyle!

Parma Raw Parmesan Cheese Alternative. I first tried this “parmesan” at a local raw food festival. I would argue it’s even better tasting than the processed breast milk of cows - dehydrated walnuts, nutritional yeast, sea salt, delicious! I can’t wait to make a pizza to sprinkle it on.

So it was my first order with Vegan Essentials and I have no complaints about service, cost, or delivery time. Their creativity in packaging made me laugh; I thought something was missing but everything was tucked in well into the given nooks and crannies. It helps that I am so relieved to have winter boots - I am having fun climbing around and stomping in the snow with my new waterproof/warm freedom.
