Poetry Tuesday: Ode to Anne Carson

Anne Carson is a Canadian poet, professor, and translator, among her many identities. Her writing is spellbinding to me, and also intimidating - I think she is a genius, and have been collecting her various books of poetry, prose poetry, essays and other writings over the years. On this gloomy Tuesday, after an [...]

Recipe Follow-up and Much Needed Monday ZZZs

Well the evening was a success! Hurrah! Much fibrous plant-based nourishment was had by all. We started off with the Curried Split Pea Soup from Real Food Daily, which I think was my favourite out of all three recipes. I added some collard greens to it since I had them on [...]

Review: Bonding with Bitch Magazine

On a whim, I picked up the latest issue of bitch magazine (subtitle: feminist response to pop culture). This is not unusual, since I tend to have an addiction to buying magazines - a random financial trap of mine. The issue is entitled Singular + Plural (Fall 07 / Issue no. 37), [...]

Researching Menu Options for living as a healthy vegan: Recipe Roundup

What is a healthy vegan lifestyle to me? In order of importance:

Incorporating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables - especially greens!
Minimizing stress as much as possible
Having an active lifestyle (while also incorporating yoga/meditation)
Avoiding too much wheat (thus largely gluten free) and eating good grains like quinoa, brown rice, millet, etc.
Cutting out high bad fat [...]

Mark Jenkins - “Let no man scare you”

Mark Jenkins, who some might called a “3D Street Artist” has been making waves in the art world, or at least the street art world. The title of this post was inspired by a Morning News interview with the artist, and I feel it is very fitting for his work.
While he has [...]

Follow up and Random Thursday Bits

Today’s delicious green smoothie: spinach + 2 pears (very ripe) + 1 banana. Delicious! I love ripe pears so much - the smoothie ended up very creamy and sweet, but mild.

Ta daa! A logo for Fauna. Since “fauna” means “a living organism characterized by voluntary movement”, the logo takes the shape of a swedish [...]

Experimenting with Raw Food Veganism

Wow - this Nablopomo thing is more difficult than I thought it would be. But here I am, continuing to post every day… Tonight was cold and dark. I made a grand effort to attend my yoga class but there was an unusual amount of traffic, so even though I was supposed [...]

Power Yoga in a Hot room: What have I gotten myself into?

Wow - I got up at 5am this morning and hiked over to my power yoga class.  Power yoga.  In a hot room. Yes, I actually survived it.  Surprisingly enough, I was able to keep up with everyone.  It was really difficult though, which is where the breathing came in handy.  I focussed [...]

Spoiler Alert: Reacting to Bee Movie - and weighing in on the big honey debate

(image)
SPOILER ALERT. Please do not read past this point if you plan on watching Bee Movie and/or care about having the plot revealed to you.
Premise of this movie in a nutshell: a bee decides he is not happy with the status quo of bee-dom, working his whole life for honey production. He [...]

Lemon Tahini Dressing and Onion ‘Bread’

Lemon tahini dressing on tomatoes, pak choy sprouts and dehydrated onion ‘bread.’ My latest food obsession is this delightful Lemon Tahini dressing. I make big batches of it and have it every day on a large salad - I’m not sure if I could ever tire of it. Since raw tahini [...]
