Random Sunday Chatter

Looks like I’m going to see the Bee Movie tomorrow night. After this great teaser, how could I not? Also, Eddie Izzard was in it, who is utterly awesome. I think I will be content to follow him around in whatever movie he happens to be starring in, especially his own stand up comedy stints.

In other news, since I’ve started having this blog and getting more web-organized, I’ve been getting much engaged in this nifty tool called del.icio.us, which I thought I would never touch with a ten-foot-pole since it looked … well … ugly. I gravitate towards web tools with excellent design and beautiful, minimal lines. But you know the web is crazy about it, so I thought I would give it a shot. My dirty secret is that I have years and years of bookmarks that are completely disorganized - del.icio.us decided it had to import those all into its system. So in the spirit of presenting a solid web presence, I thought I would clean up all of those old bookmarks. This has begun an extraordinarily long process of clicking and deleting, then sharing those bookmarks that still make sense for me. I have grown up with the web for a long time now, and it’s really interesting to see how I’ve changed through what I’ve marked as important. I’ve learned that I saved many things unnecessarily - luckily I’m a bit more reasonable now. I’ve actually been having fun with sorting, though with over 1000 bookmarks the end is nowhere near in sight.

I am not putting everything in del.icio.us. For active projects it makes no sense to have them lost in a sea of tagged bookmarks when I need them to be easily accessible - I’m still not completely used to the tagging system. But it’s a great archive for things like artist websites I can refer back to. All blogs with RSS feeds go directly into my Google Reader so I can keep up with them more easily, so I don’t care about saving them in del.icio.us since GReader is a great storage/reading space. The most fascinating thing for me about del.icio.us which I’ve been missing out on is its potential as a great research tool. When you search in del.icio.us you are searching a database of urls that people have considered worth saving - and you don’t just search the notes or titles of those links, but you are searching tags. This means that you can find things that don’t seem to refer to your subject but someone has recognized them as being related, something which Google can’t quite do.

In other news, my commitment to yoga and meditation is official. Today I attended my first yoga class at the downtown yoga centre - I also purchase a three month pass. I plan on going as often as I can. I feel so great after doing yoga. It’s a big commitment, but I’m excited about it. Imagine how I will feel after attending yoga at least five times a week for three months!
