Green Smoothie of the Day: Halloween Wake-up Special

green smoothie

My smoothies are almost always green. Yes, GREEN. And today I made an especially tasty concoction that was delicious and creamy. For more information on why green smoothies are good for you and good to eat, check out this great entry and this landmark essay by Victoria Boutenko. All I know is that they are like a drug for me - they give me so much immediate energy and taste delicious! I have been making them for months now and I don’t plan to stop.

The Halloween Wake-up Special:

  • Blender full of spinach
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 kiwi (skinned or not skinned, depending on how adventurous you are - yes, the skin has antioxidants and is edible!)
  • a dash of freshly squeezed orange juice (or one small orange)

Blend! I usually fill the blender as full as possible with spinach (but if this is too much to start you can always work your way up - trust me, this smoothie is good though). Then I put some water in it and blend the spinach first until it is 1/2 the blender in liquid form, or 3/4 this morning since I put lots of spinach in. Then blend in the rest of the ingredients. I drink the entire blender’s worth of smoothie throughout the early morning and take my time so that the smoothie digests well. After a few days of doing this, you really notice the difference! I make this every day with different greens and fruit and in different combinations - it’s a great morning drink.
